The January transfer window will take full effect in the next few weeks, with a lot of moves on the cards for both players and coaches.

There were a few key signings across the league from the beginning of the season, and with a high of eleven matches played, here Obakeng Meletse looks at how they have progressed so far.

Iqraam Rayners

The former Stellenbosch FC striker has settled well to life in the highveld, and he has quickly become a pivotal part of Mamelodi Sundowns’ plans in all competitions. His six goals in the league have placed him as the leading goal scorer, and he has played a key role in ensuring the defending champions maintain the lead over Orlando Pirates despite their 1-0 loss against Polokwane City earlier this season.

The 29-year-old has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season, and baring any disruptions to his game time, he seems well on his way to having a debut season to remember in the Brazilians’ colours.

Deano van Rooyen

Van Rooyen has quickly shifted from being a newcomer to a key player in Jose Riveiro’s Orlando Pirates’ side. The former Stellies defender has slotted perfectly into the Bucaneers’ defence and plans, and he has made eight appearances so far this season in the league.

His abilities defensively and decision-making in the attacking half have made him a weapon for the Sea Robbers. His solo goal in the 8-1 rout of Marumo Gallants, outlined his abilities and composure when in front of goal, and he has so far been an important acquisition as Pirates continue their battle for the league and Champions League crowns.

Gaston Sirino

While the Uruguayan international has shown glimpses of the brilliance he once displayed in the colours of Sundowns, much like Kaizer Chiefs, he has struggled to have an impact on a regular basis as they still attempt to find their rhythm under Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi.

The talented winger has made seven appearances in the league with one goal to show for his efforts. And while it can be argued that some of his shortfalls have been through no fault of his own, he will need to have a better showing in the second half of the season if Amakhosi are to have a solid grip on one of the top eight positions.

Arthur Sales

In a season where the Brazilians have to navigate through local and continental football, the Brazil International has been one of the few players that have made quite a few appearances under new coach Miguel Cardoso, and he will have a lot more to do as the season goes on.

The right-footed striker has already scored two goals, with one of those coming from the penalty spot. Sales also has two assists in the league, and his classy finish in a 2-0 win against Richards Bay FC gave a glimpse of the threat he carries in open play. Sundowns will be hoping for a lot more of that as they continue to navigate through their busy schedule.

Rushwin Dortley

The acquisition of the Bafana Bafana international came when Chief’s defence was a point of focus, and not a lot has changed since then as they have continued to leak goals while they have struggled to get results to go their way.

Dortley has been a regular for Nabi, with 10 matches played in the league since his signing at the beginning of the season, and with a lot of potential to be the lead defender in the future. His individual brilliance hasn’t been enough to shut down the goal mouth, as they have only kept one clean sheet in the league for the whole season.
