With Soweto bustling with eateries and known for a hub of activities attracting tourists from abroad, Sakhumzi Restaurant has carved itself among the finest culinary gems in the township.
The restaurant, located on Vilakazi Street, is known for its authentic African cuisine, serving culinary adventures to local, national, and international guests, showcasing the unique street where two Nobel Peace Prize laureates lived.
Capping off Heritage Month, on Sunday, “The Star” clients and readers were treated to an immersive experience that blended authentic cuisine, rich history, and a lively atmosphere.
The restaurant is also located in three locations, Vilakazi Street in Soweto, Phefeni also in Soweto and third location Sakhumzi Zoo Lake in Parkview, Johannesburg.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) celebrated the grand opening of Sakhumzi Zoo Lake in March, partnering with Sakhumzi Maqubela, a visionary leader and restauranteur, to transform the eatery into a vibrant new destination.
It is explained that the partnership with the city marked a major milestone of growth and more future developments.
The new restaurant provides a serene space for social events like bridal showers, birthday celebrations, and company parties, showcasing the unique flavours and rich history of Sakhumzi, a global culinary gem rooted in Soweto’s Vilakazi Street.
The new restaurant’s location not only elevates the park’s allure but also signifies a dedication to the city’s citizens. Both regular patrons and tourists can look forward to a revitalised dining experience, while the surrounding community benefits from a vibrant new addition that will enhance their livelihood and uplift their property values.
This restaurant, with its legacy rooted in Soweto, extends its cultural influence, creating a new destination that bridges historical divides within the city.
Beyond the culinary delights, Maqubela is dedicated to empowering youth, creating jobs, and providing training to address Johannesburg’s unemployment issues, while also celebrating and advancing the community.
