It seems as the end of the road is nearing for Shauwn Mkhize's embattled Royal AM, who have not been able to fulfil their fixtures this year ever since the club was taken over by the South African Revenue Services (SARS).
According to an SABC Sport report, the Premier Soccer League's executive committee have been locked in meetings discussing whether or not to expel MaMkhize's club from the Betway Premiership, forcing the league campaign to be concluded with 15 teams instead of 16.
Earlier this year, the PSL announced that due to the club’s precarious financial position, their upcoming fixtures would be cancelled “until further notice”. They were not able to fulfil their league fixture against Orlando Pirates, while their Nedbank Cup game against Milford FC was also called off.
Royal AM's expulsion will see minnows Milford FC advance to the Round of 16 of the Nedbank Cup and are scheduled to face Sekhukhune United this coming weekend.
Last week, the club’s urgent court application to force the PSL to allow them to return to action was reported to have failed, leaving them in limbo.
Royal AM are currently under the curatorship of the South African Revenue Services as Mkhize currently owes R40 million to the taxman. In November of last year, her La Lucia, Durban home was raided by officials from the South African Police Services (SAPS) and SARS.
The club have also been handed a transfer ban by world football governing body FIFA due to owing money to former players Samir Nurkovic and Ricardo Nascimento. Their inability to sign players has led to Mkhize's son, club chairman Andile Mpisane, playing regularly in the Betway Premiership.
