Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United has grown even more uncertain, if the latest comments by coach Ruben Amorim are anything to go by.
In what should have been a relatively upbeat post-match press conference with Amorim after his side beat Fulham 1-0 away from home in the Premier League on Sunday, the subject quickly turned to why Rashford hadn’t appeared for the club in the last 11 matches.
Rumours have also been swirling that the 27-year-old will be moving away from United, since he had fallen out of favour since Amorim’s arrival at the club late last year.
Amorim said nothing had changed in his view of Rashford.
“It’s always the same reason. The reason is the training. The way I see what a footballer should do in training, in life, every day. If things don’t change, I will not change,” said Amorim.
“You can see it today on the bench. We needed a little bit of pace to change the game to move some pieces, but I prefer it like that.”
Not satisfied with saying Rashford wasn’t doing enough in training, Amorim went on to say he’d rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital before another squad member who is not committed.
“I will put Vital on before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum. I will not change in that department.”
As for the future prospects of Rashford, Amorim was not prepared to give any more details.
“It’s the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player.”
