After many years of being homeless, Hout Bay United Football Community (HBUFC) at last celebrated its new premises with an official opening of the Dream Factory at the end of November.
Situated on Hout Bay Main Road, in the old Generations School, the premises are shared with Fleetwood Town International Football Academy, the South African branch of an international football academy based in the UK.
Over 60 players and coaches can live on site, and the academy also features a 5-a-side field, football-specific gym, classrooms, audiovisual room, canteen and even a small coffee shop open to the public.
The opening day featured a 5-a-side game with various ex-professionals as well as the CEO of English League One club Fleetwood Town, Steve Curwood.
He expressed his delight at the chance to build something new and great in Hout Bay, and to continue to expand the work of HBUFC in the community.
HBUFC has teams in the elite Cape Town youth leagues, as well as in the Motsepe League and a women’s team in the Sasol League.
The hope is for Hout Bay to be represented in the very top SA leagues.
