Newly-established Hout Bay All Stars FC flew the flag for the Good Hope Local Football Association at the weekend’s round of 16 Coke Cup matches, in Grassy Park.All Stars beat a 10-man Woodlands United 3-0, after leading 2-0 at half-time, in a somewhat tense affair that saw Woodlands goalkeeper Chadwin Fortune sent off in the first half following an altercation with the referee.
In only their first appearance in the competition, All Stars outplayed the former champions to became the first side from the area to make it to the Top 8 section of what is considered Safa Cape Town’s flagship competition.
Two first half penalties slotted home with pin-point accuracy by left winger, Durrin Phillips, and live wire striker Emile “Mielo” Arendse’s effort late in the second half, buried Woodlands’ hopes of going through to the next round.

Arendse’s all-round impressive performance attracted the attention of the Safa Cape Town selectors who duly named him the senior men’s Coke Cup player-of-the-round. Stars will now face either Bayhill United or Norway Parks in the quarter-finals.
“Very good game, hectic at times,” said coach Daniel Plaatjies, “but I’ve got to commend my guys on their discipline.”“That team had previously won the Coke competition three times, so it was just not any team we knocked out, it’s one of the favourites, actually,” he said.

“We became the first senior team in the history of Hout Bay to reach the last eight of the competition,” he said.“We’re looking forward to the next round. The players feel they can go all the way to the finals, which will be a massive achievement,” he said.“We’re a young club and it’s hard to get sponsors. Right now we hope and pray that someone will come along to sponsor us so we can purchase tracksuits so we can start looking like a team,” he said.
Current Good Hope LFA league champions, All Stars, is an outfit with high ambitions, Plaatjies said.“We’re back in it this year, we’re doing well in the league, we’re joint top,” he said,“We are going to compete, we want to win it because this year we’ve got a bigger and stronger team,” he said.“Our aim is to make Hout Bay Proud, to make the LFA proud but most of all, to make our community proud.”ReplyForward
