The Springbok Women’s Sevens team understands the magnitude of the challenge ahead as they prepare to take the field at the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger 2025 at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town this weekend.
After losing their core team status to Hong Kong China, the South Africans are determined to reclaim their place on the world circuit, and their campaign begins with crucial pool matches against Hong Kong China, and Czechia on Saturday.
With a spot in Sunday’s semi-finals on the line, the Bok Women’s Sevens know there is no room for error.

Shiniqwa Lamprecht, the dynamic 21-year-old from Pretoria, emphasised the team’s focus and determination upon arriving in Cape Town on Tuesday. Having signed a national contract with a long-term sevens career in mind, she remains committed to representing South Africa at the highest level.
“Dropping off the circuit was a shock to all of us, so we need to get back at the next opportunity, which starts this weekend,” Lamprecht stated.
And with this determination by the national side, fans can expect an urgent and relentless approach from the team on Saturday, as they look to make a statement. Despite their previous World Series experience, Lamprecht acknowledged that every tournament presents unique challenges, and no victories can be taken for granted.
“The team with the best skill levels, preparation, and dedication will be successful come Sunday,” she added. “Fortunately, our squad has good experience and maturity, which could work in our favour.”
The squad boasts continuity, with only three players not having featured in the World Series last season. As the second-youngest member of the squad, Lamprecht believes this mix of experience and fresh energy will serve the team well.
“They were selected because they have the skill set to benefit the team, and they will also bring extra energy, so we are in a good place as a squad,” she explained.
South Africa proved competitive in every match they played on the circuit last season, and the team has since dedicated extensive hours to preparing for the Challenger, covering everything from field sessions to gym work and strategic planning.
“A good crowd will be a bonus because, ultimately, we play for everyone who finds meaning in the Springbok jersey,” Lamprecht concluded.
With their home crowd behind them and a hunger to regain their place on the world stage, the Bok Women’s Sevens are ready to give it their all this weekend in Cape Town.
