Organisers of the Kimberley Diamond Cup (KDC) recently kicked off the season right in the heart of the Northern Cape. The event kicked off on Saturday, November 23 at the Bergsig Sports Grounds in Springbok and then moved on to the Upington Sports Grounds the following day.
As this newspaper stated before, the KDC isn’t just a skateboarding event; it’s a movement aimed at inspiring the next generation, empowering local talent, and bringing local communities together through the spirit of sport.
And that’s exactly what happened in Springbok this past weekend where young talent was celebrated in a big way.
The event in Bersig was a day filled with plenty of energy, loads of excitement, and buckets of inspiration. There were some impressive performances by eight remarkable young girls, all under the age of 13. Their impressive showing on the skateboard earned them a cash prize of R700 each as well as a brand new board each!
The KDC Facebook page announced that “With brand-new skateboards in hand and dreams in their hearts, these young champions proved that with the right support, anything is possible.”
As the tour moves on to De Aar and Kuruman this weekend, there is no doubt that some new talent and passion will be unearthed.
As the KDC tour continues to roll, skate fans can bask in the fusion of sports, culture, and adventure. One thing is becoming increasingly clear, every event on the schedule is designed to bring people together, build excitement, and inspire both young and old to dream big.
