Fish Hoek karateka crowned u-21 champ

Fish Hoek’s Myuoor M Pillay, 18, flew the flag for the Mother City and SA at the recent African Karate Federation Region South championships held in Namibia.

Myuoor M Pillay, 18, from Fish Hoek and a first year business science student at UCT, was crowned champion at the recent African Karate Federation Region South championships held in Swakopmund, Namibia, winning gold in the under-21 male Kata division.

A member of Okinawa Goju-ryu Karatedo-Kyokai (OGKK) South Peninsula, Myuoor competed against fighters from seven Southern African countries.

The current Western Cape under-21 champion and a national silver medalist, he also competed in the World Karate Federation Karate 1 Youth League, in Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates, in 2023 and 2024, and at the World Goju Karate Federation (WGKF) championships in Italy, in 2022
