Don’t be surprised to see Hout Bay Hurricanes Basketball Club members running around on the court with an extra bounce in their step.
With 60 registered players, three junior teams and a senior team playing in various Cape Town Basketball Association leagues, the one thing, besides balls and hoops, the Hurricanes can never have enough of, is proper basketball shoes.
So when UCT Basketball Club, Hoops4Hope, a non-profit organisation that uses basketball to uplift youngsters from impoverished communities, joined forces with Puma South Africa to donate basketball shoes valued at over R40 000 to the Hurricanes, it was just what they needed.
“This incredible support strengthens our fight against the negative effects of our current economic challenges and plays a vital role in keeping our youth engaged in positive, empowering activities like basketball,” said Hurricanes chairman Rosco Jacobs, who took over management of the club in 2018.
“Your contribution is more than just shoes — it’s a 'step forward' in building confidence, discipline, and community spirit among our young athletes.”
