Hout Bay residents notified of upcoming roadworks and speed humps

Staff Reporter|Published

The City of Cape Town's urban mobility directorate is constructing speed humps along Edward Street, between Earl Street and Princess Street, in Hout Bay, from Monday, September 29, until Friday, November 28.

Mayoral committee member for urban mobility Rob Quintas, and councillor for Ward 74, including Hout Bay and Llandudno, said the public is advised about the construction, where non-motorised transport (NMT) measures would be implemented along Valley Road, between Avenue De Chavonnes and Welbevid Way, in Hout Bay, to enhance pedestrian and cycling safety and encourage active mobility.

Mr Quintas said the work would continue provided there were no unforeseen delays.

Roadworks will be underway between 8am and 4.30pm, from Monday to Friday.

Mr Quintas said that during the next two months, the team would be enhancing the traffic calming and pedestrian safety along Edward Street and Valley Street, in Hout Bay, particularly because of the schools and play parks nearby, where the highest concentration of vulnerable road users was typically encountered.

"Surrounding residents can expect some noise during this time, and congestion along this route is likely," he said.
