No to electricity price hike

Letter to the Editor|Published 7 months ago

Jasmine Uys, Surrey Estate

I really don't know how Eskom can even consider a price hike of 40% or more.

The cost of electricity is already almost unaffordable. The poorest of the poor already struggle with the rising cost of living. Every day food prices rise. You pay one price for something; you don’t even turn around and the price goes up again. Many poor people must choose between bread, or electricity.

Now Eskom wants to make it even more difficult to buy electricity. How can Nersa (the National Energy Regulator of South Africa) even consider it? Let's hope they come to their senses and reconsider. Or is this the price we have to pay for no load shedding?
