Police in Mpumalanga are investigating a case of murder after a prominent pastor was killed in a suspected hit. Officers are now turning to the community for assistance in the hopes of finding and arresting the gunmen.
Dr Ezrom Mathumbu was travelling on R536 Road at Cork Trust between Mkhulu and the Kruger National Park in the Bushbuckridge Municipality at the time.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said a vehicle is believed to have pulled up alongside him and shot at his Toyota GD06 bakkie several times.
"Nothing appears to have been taken during the incident, and police recovered some cartridges of a rifle at the scene. Paramedics unfortunately certified the victim dead on the scene," said provincial police spokesperson, Mdhluli added.

He said the motive remains unknown and police are investigating further.
Mathumbu was also a presenter on Munghana Lonene FM and was a member of Action SA.
"We appeal to anyone with information that could assist in apprehending the suspects to contact the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidentially, and informants can opt to remain anonymous," Mdhluli said.
