Three killed in N3 horror crash near Pietermaritzburg
Three men have been killed following a horror crash on the N3 in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday afternoon.
According to emergency teams, at the scene, the crash occurred on the busy highway between Ashburton and Lion Park near Pietermaritzburg.
"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos and carnage as both bounds of the national freeway were affected. Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that one car, a SUV and a truck had collided.
“It's alleged that the two vehicles collided on the Pietermaritzburg bound carriageway before the SUV lost control and veered through the centre medium and collided head on with a truck," said ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson.
He added that the occupants of the SUV were severely entrapped in the wreckage with fatal injuries.
"All three were declared deceased on the scene. One other driver had sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene. Traffic was severely affected both Bounds for some time whilst emergency personal worked to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash," Jamieson said.
