A seal snared in a knot of tattered clothes was freed by a group of Hout Bay Seal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre volunteers in Bantry Bay last Thursday, December 12.
At 6pm, the five-year-old seal was reported to be struggling and stranded on rocks in Bantry Bay.
“After we rescued the seal and freed it from the clothes wrapped around its body, we noticed that the animal had no injuries and returned it back to the ocean,” according to rescue volunteer, Eliam Lipenga.
Mr Lipenga, Joe Willemse and Beaton Phiri all assisted in freeing the entangled seal.
