A community meeting about renovations at Hout Bay Harbour will take place this month, says the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
This comes after members of a Hout Bay Harbour steering committee said they had been left in the dark about the national government’s project to renovate the harbour (“Harbour renovations must involve the community,” Sentinel, July 26).
The committee’s 18 members come from various parts of Hout Bay, including Hangberg and Imizamo Yethu, according to its vice chairperson Haneefa Opperman.
The department’s spokesperson Thami Mchunu did not say exactly when or where the meeting would take place other than it would be in Hout Bay.
The steering committee was an “essential link” between the department and the community, and during the meeting, further discussions would be held on the finalisation of the terms of reference to be agreed upon by the appointed committee members, he said, adding that only once that had happened would future operations, including the renovations, be discussed.
Ms Opperman said she had not yet heard anything from the department about a meeting.
Ward councillor Roberto Quintas said he was unaware of any tentative meeting date, but should a meeting happen, he would be sure to attend.
