Speculation is running high that a decomposed body found stuffed in a cupboard at the Sea View Flats in Hangberg earlier this week is that of a missing 17-year-old girl, as police confirmed the arrest of three people for murder.
The gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday evening, just days after Amiena Swano was reported missing on Valentine's Day, Saturday, February 14, leaving many in the community wondering if the body is that of the Hangberg teen.
Police confirmed that DNA testing is underway to determine whether the body is that of Amiena.
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that Hout Bay police are investigating a murder case following the discovery.
"The identity is yet to be determined as the body was found decomposed," Constable Gwala said.
Constable Gwala confirmed that police were able to make three arrests, with suspects currently in custody.
Two men, aged 36 and 49, along with a woman, aged 59, were arrested for murder and are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court tomorrow, Friday, February 20.
