Residents at Kronendal Retirement Village started the festive season on a warm note by donating 38 children’s blankets to underprivileged pupils at local schools around Hout Bay.
Earlier this year, the seniors began making the blankets, appealing for assistance while working on the project.
On Friday, December 12, the knitting club handed over the blankets to a member of the Lions Club to be distributed within Hout Bay.
Heading up the club is Angie Long, who said: "What an amazing year it has been at Kronendal Retirement Village. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, who continually provide us with wool, our dedicated knitting club has been able to create blankets for friends in other retirement homes as well as children in local schools."
She sent out a "heartfelt thank-you" to the knitting club for their tremendous enthusiasm and commitment.
"Every blanket is a labour of love, created with 'one stitch at a time' and together these small stitches have made a big difference in the lives of others. As we come to the end of another successful year, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays," Ms Long said.
"Rest up, enjoy the festive season - and get ready, because our next big project begins in 2026."
If any sponsors are willing and able to donate towards the club, contact Angie Long on 082 544 7460.
Liz Huckle from the Lion’s Club accepts the blankets from Judy Ellmann, who heads up the club.
