Kronendal Primary School pupils and staff laced up their walking shoes on Wednesday, October, for a fund-raising walk in aid of the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), raising R2 865 for the cause.

The event, which coincided with Principal Nathan Levendal’s 60th birthday, saw the entire school community take part.

The walk began on the school field, continued through the local park and along Main Road, before turning at the Chapman’s Peak “big rock” and heading back.

Each pupil contributed a minimum of R10, with many families giving additional donations.

All proceeds will go directly to the PSFA, which provides daily nutritious meals to children across the Western Cape.

Speaking on behalf of the student governing body (SGB), Woon Zaidy said: “Every step taken today helps put food on a child’s plate. The support from Kronendal Primary shows the power of community in building a brighter, healthier future for learners across the province.”

On their return, pupils were awarded medals and treated to refreshments in recognition of their efforts.

The school described the walk as part of Cape Town’s long-running “Blisters for Bread” tradition, a symbolic reminder of how small contributions can make a big impact.

Principal Levendal, who has led the school for 16 years, was honoured during the event.

“This walk is about more than fund-raising. It’s about walking together as a community, caring for others, and leaving footprints for the next generation to follow,” he said.
