The lights at the Artscape Theatre Centre shone brightly on pupils from the Llandudno Primary School on Wednesday, August 6, when they took to the stage for the 2025 Artscape Schools Festival.
Pupils delivered an unforgettable performance that left the audience inspired and uplifted, according to principal Alexander Molteno.
The Artscape Schools Festival is one of Cape Town’s youth arts showcases, which sees over a hundred schools from across the Western Cape participate in a multi-day celebration of performance, artistic expression, and cultural diversity.
The festival offered pupils an opportunity to perform on a professional stage.
This year, Llandudno Primary presented a "vibrant and emotionally resonant" programme that reflected both musical skill and personal expression, said Mr Molteno.
The pupils presented a line-up across three ensembles: the Senior Choir, the Grade Six Band, and the Grade Seven Band.
Mr Molteno said the pupils' stage presence and group synergy left a lasting impression on the audience
"More than just a showcase of talent, the Artscape Schools Festival is a platform for nation-building through the arts, where children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds come together with a shared goal: to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and excellence," he said.
"At the heart of Llandudno Primary School’s ethos is a deep commitment to music education and cultivating a love for the performing arts. The school sees music not as an extracurricular activity, but as a vital pillar of holistic education - fostering creativity, discipline, collaboration, and self-expression in every learner. We are incredibly proud of our pupils,” Mr Molteno said.
After the performance, the Senior Choir was invited to perform at the Gala event, which took place at the Artscape Opera House last Thursday, August 14. Selected from nearly 100 schools that participated, Llandudno was part of the 18 that were selected to perform at the gala.
"The Artscape stage allowed them to shine, and they truly rose to the occasion. As a school, we believe in nurturing the whole child - and music education is one of the pillars that supports our vision,” Mr Molteno said.
