Hout Bay's Kronendal Retirement Village has been recognised on a list released by Hamilton's Property Portfolio as one of the Top 20 Luxury Retirement Villages in South Africa.

The retirement village is managed by the Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged (CPOA) and is operated for people aged 55 and older on a life rights model, providing an affordable and low-maintenance option for retirees looking to settle near family, nature, and essential services - without the administrative burden of property ownership, according to the Home Manager at the retirement village, Nkosi Moyo,

The village made the list, landing in the top 10 alongside others, including Val de Vie Evergreen, Zevenwacht Lifestyle Estate in the Cape Winelands, Belvidere Park in Knysna, Quartet Estate in Plettenberg Bay, and the Tokai Estate Life Retirement Village.

Hamilton's Property Portfolio came into existence in 2003 when they identified the need for a select boutique Real Estate Agency.

The village features a variety of cottages and apartments, with 24-hour security and access to on-site assisted living and frail care.

Some of the residents at the village already made news when they started collecting wool and sewing materials to start an initiative which saw them knitting much-needed blankets for struggling residents living at surrounding homes ("Warmth in every stitch", Sentinel News, May 30, 2025).

Mr Moyo, said: "We are beyond elated as a community to be recognised among the elite luxury retirement villages in South Africa. Being mentioned with the who's who in modern and progressive developments catering to the needs of the elderly means a lot for us."

"It recognizes and reemphasises the effectiveness of the mission of the CPOA as a specialist in the retirement sector and recognises the tireless efforts of the men and women at Kronendal Retirement Village to ensure quality of life, promote independence, and preserve the dignity of our dear elderly in our care and accommodations. This recognition is one we will treasure for a long time while continuously being awake to new opportunities to up our game and stay in the elite group."

The village is known for its scenery and tranquil environment.
