Llandudno Primary School was abuzz during its annual Readathon Week, held from Monday, August 4, to Friday, August 8.

The week-long celebration aimed to spark a lifelong love of reading through interactive, creative, and community-driven activities.

The festivities kicked off with DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) sessions, giving pupils time to dive into their favourite books and complete their Readathon booklets, said principal Alexander Molteno.

Throughout the week, pupils took part in the playful “What Is My Teacher Reading?” challenge, matching baby photos of staff to their current reads.

Mystery reader visits from parents, teachers vs learners book quiz, and colourful door-decorating competitions added to the fun. "Pupils penned heartfelt or humorous letters to favourite fictional characters, while the foundation phase crafted masks and the intermediate/senior phase designed autobiographical book covers," Mr Molteno said.

Midweek, teachers swapped classrooms to read aloud to other grades, and a second-hand book sale in support of Help the Rural Child promoted affordable access to stories. Thursday’s buddy-reading sessions paired younger and older pupils, allowing them to share stories.

The week wrapped up with Popcorn, Pillow & PJ Day and a fast-paced library scavenger hunt. “We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our love of books with the school community,” said Mr Molteno.
