About 90 children from Parkfields Primary School in Hanover Park celebrated their achievements at the City's Learn to Swim fun day, showcasing the skills they learnt.
The event on Thursday February 27, by City of Cape Town's recreation and parks department’s Learn to Swim programme, was an opportunity to showcase the children's hard work and dedication, said the City's Mayco member for community services and health, Francine Higham.

Pupils demonstrated their newly acquired swimming skills, highlighting the importance of water safety and lifesaving abilities. A total of 36 Learn to Swim programmes are taking place across the City at various municipal swimming pools.
"The Learn to Swim programme is more than just teaching children how to swim — it is a critical component of our broader strategy for drowning prevention. We are committed to providing opportunities like this one to empower our residents with the skills they need to stay safe in and around water, while also encouraging healthy lifestyles," said Ms Higham.

Hanover Park ward councillor, Antonio Van Der Rheede, said it was a privilege to see the success of the young swimmers
"I commend all involved for their dedication. Ensuring every child in Hanover Park learns to swim is a cause close to my heart. I encourage schools and ECDs to get involved so we can equip our children with the skills they need to thrive," he said.
