Kewtown Primary School was the proud recipient of 100 school bags today.
Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages donated the bags to Kewtown Primary School and stationery items to Lentegeur LSEN School, on Thursday February 27. The company managed to raise R14 530 and matched the funds raised to purchase the donated items.
Kewtown Primary principal Cecil Baily said the school bag donation was much needed because many of the pupils came to school with no bags or with their stationery in a plastic bag. He said that the school served many impoverished communities and parents could not afford school bags.
“We have 590 pupils at our school, from Kewtown, Langa, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Philippi, and the broader Athlone area. These bags will definitely inspire and uplift our pupils; it will go a long way,” he said.
Kewtown Primary school governing body chairwoman Natasha Mess, thanked the company for the donation. “This will ease some of the financial burdens our school faces. The school bags will greatly benefit students. We share your passion for community development,” she said.
Head of public affairs at the company, Priscilla Urquhart, said they care about the well-being and education of communities. “Our efforts contribute to the future,” she said.
