The City is proposing upgrades to non-motorised transport (NMT) infrastructure in Brackenfell, Kraaifontein, Wallacedene and Bloekombos.
The scope of the project will include maintaining existing NMT facilities in the above mentioned areas, upgrading and installing dropped kerbs and tactile ground surface indicators for the visually impaired, upgrading pedestrian crossings by shortening the crossing distances, and improving signage and road markings and, lastly, to introduce protected cycle lanes where applicable.
“We have identified the need for this infrastructure in these communities and want to improve road safety for the residents. This is another way we are working towards keeping the residents in Cape Town moving,” said Rob Quintas, the mayoral committee member for urban mobility.
Some of the roads affected by this project include Frans Conradie Drive between Old Oak Road and Van Riebeeck Road, Old Paarl Road between Brackenfell Boulevard and Kruisfontein Road and many more.
