Lalela, a non-profit arts education programme based in Hout Bay, held a workshop dealing with career advice and the daily challenges women face, at Bertha House, in Mowbray on Women’s Day, Friday August 9. Violinist Kirsty Bows and political analyst Ziyanda Stuurman were among the speakers. Lalela’s female empowerment programme works with Grade 8 girls from Hangberg, Imizamo Yethu, Masiphumelele, Khayelitsha, Philippi, Gugulethu, Nyanga, and Langa, according to Firdous Hendricks, Lalela’s executive director. “Our goal is to equip these girls to stay in school and have the confidence to chase their dreams,” she said.
