Octotel, the leading Fibre Network Operator in the Western Cape, has once again demonstrated its commitment to the communities it serves with an Easter Egg Drive initiative. The company sponsored schools within its network coverage with free fibre while also giving back to the community by hosting the Easter Egg Drive, which supported Scottsdene schools, particularly Caverilla Primary School.
The drive was a huge success, with over 1220 eggs collected and distributed to all pupils and staff of the school at no cost by Octotel employees. The school expressed its gratitude for the donations, which brought light and joy to the children's lives.
"At Octotel, we believe in the power of generosity and that everyone should have access to something as simple and meaningful as an Easter egg because that is how we connect at Octotel," said Carly Haydricks, Octotel's Corporate Social Responsibility Lead.
Octotel's commitment to giving back to the community was highlighted by the unexpected blessing for the teachers at the school, who have difficulty obtaining donations of any kind. The donation was greatly appreciated, not only for its generous quantity but also for the sentiment behind it, showing that Octotel cares about the community it serves.
"We were greatly impressed with the humility and compassion shown by Octotel employees when they interacted with the children. It is an encouraging sign when a company can help kids who aren't as fortunate when they have the means to do so," said Leornard Africa, principal of Cavalleria Primary School.
Octotel's act of kindness also provided a joyous and festive atmosphere, with the children eagerly collecting the eggs and participating in Easter-themed activities. The company also offered a R500 voucher for parents of the children, as part of a prize-giving.
Jolandra Cloete, a parent of one of the students, expressed her gratitude towards Octotel, stating: "I am thankful to Octotel for giving us these opportunities. My son, who attends the school, informed me about the competition, and I entered with the hope of winning, knowing that many other parents would also be competing. When I discovered that I had won, I was overjoyed. As I couldn't afford anything special for my son's birthday, I pledged to use the voucher to purchase something nice for him."
Octotel's Easter Egg Drive highlights the importance of corporate social responsibility, and the need for more corporate generosity towards local communities. The company hopes that its initiative will inspire other companies to follow suit and contribute to making the world a better place.
