Search for German tourist who went missing in Hout Bay
The search continues for a missing German tourist who was last seen in Hout Bay.
Nick Frischke, 22, was caught on CCTV footage, on Wednesday February 15, walking towards the start of the Karbonkelberg hiking trail, according to Hout Bay police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Jerome Syster.
Provincial police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said Mr Frischke arrived in South Africa on Monday February 6 and moved into an Airbnb in Pinelands. He was seen on CCTV visiting the V&A Waterfront on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday February 14, after leaving his accommodation on foot at about 10am.
According to Warrant Officer Swartbooi, Mr Frischke was reported missing at Pinelands police station. He is 1.75m tall and of lean build. He does not speak English well. At the time of his disappearance, he was carrying a backpack and wearing blue denim shorts, white takkies and a beige T-shirt.
The young man’s brother, Tom Frischke, posted an appeal for help on the Germans in Cape Town Facebook group, saying, “Hello, we miss Nick. He is currently on holiday in Cape Town and has lost contact since Wednesday. He also did not come home on Wednesday and Thursday in his accommodation (in Pinelands). All his stuff is still there. He signed up for a surf course on Thursday but never showed up for it. We don't know what to do and think that he is in a helpless situation. The mountain guard and local police, as well as the Germans, are informed.”
On Tuesday, Lieutenant Colonel Syster said they were continuing the search, assisted by a Western Cape Emergency Medical Services drone to reach inaccessible areas.
Wilderness Search and Rescue spokesman David Nel said they were also assisting with the search. NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says they have also joined the search.
