The Zeitz MOCAA Gala 2025, a night dedicated to the celebration of African art, was an event to remember. Hosted by Zeitz MOCAA's Executive Director and Chief Curator, Koyo Kouoh, the evening unfolded in impeccable style, blending elegance with a deep respect for the vibrant cultural heritage of the continent.

From the moment guests stepped onto the iconic red carpet, the glitz and glam were evident. The red carpet was a dazzling display of African artistry, with artists from the continent and international figures shining in their finest attire. Each step was a celebration of style, culture, and the powerful impact of African art, setting the stage for what would become a night to remember.

The evening continued with an extraordinary gala dinner, where the atmosphere was as sophisticated as the guests in attendance. This year’s event not only served as a fundraiser for the museum but also celebrated the contributions of African artists to the global art scene. One of the most significant moments of the evening was the tribute to Otobong Nkanga, born in Kano, Nigeria, currently living and working in Antwerp, Belgium, who was honored for her outstanding contribution to contemporary art. Nkanga’s thought-provoking works, which explore identity, land, and environmental sustainability, have garnered international recognition, making her honor especially well-deserved.

Adding to the evening’s excitement was a captivating performance by South African singer and musician Thandiswa Mazwai. Her soulful performance added an extra layer of energy and cultural richness to the event, reminding all in attendance of the power of African music in the global cultural dialogue.The night was expertly hosted by MC Jo-Ann Strauss, who held it down with grace and charm, ensuring that the event flowed seamlessly from one moment to the next. Her dynamic presence set the tone for an evening filled with inspiration, celebration, and community.
