Durban — The eThekwini municipality’s assets will go under the hammer on Thursday.
Among the assets to be auctioned off are 172 vehicles, including light motor vehicles, light delivery vehicles, trucks and various goods.
Viewing of the goods started on Monday at 11 and 17 Electron Road in Springfield and will proceed until Wednesday at 6pm.
In an advert the city posted on its social media platforms, it said: “Interested parties are invited to participate, particularly previously disadvantaged individuals.”
The city said this is in line with its radical economic transformation agenda.
Registration for bidding for goods will set would-be bidders back by a refundable R5 000, while bidding for vehicles is R10 000 per vehicle, which is also refundable.
This is the 12th edition of the auction held by the municipality in a bid to advance the radical economic transformation agenda.
In 2019, the auction was marred by racial complaints.
However, the municipality refuted these claims, maintaining that the auction was open to all races.
At the time, the matter went to court with Spokes Auctioneers against the municipality and Isivuno Auctioneers and Brokers, restraining them from proceeding with the sale of vehicles and preventing the city from appointing an auctioneer for the process.
But the warring groups ironed out issues, and the auction went ahead without glitches.
