Crèche needs help after wall collapse
A Hout Bay crèche is appealing for help after part of its outside retaining wall collapsed during heavy rains.
A 10 metre-long section of the 5-metre high wall collapsed on Monday morning August 11, according to Hout Bay Educare Centre’s office administrator Florence Hendricks.
"Inside the laundry room, I saw one of the walls moved away as well when the wall fell,” she said.
The crèche was established in 1953 for the children of factory workers, she said.
Hout Bay Lions Club president, Elizabeth Boonzaier visited the crèche to assess the damage.
“We have raised the plight of Hout Bay Educare on our Facebook page and hope that the community will respond generously through donations so that the wall can be rebuilt as soon as possible,” said Ms Boonzaier.
Ms Hendricks said: “It’ll be great if an assessor can come out to see exactly how bad the damage is and find out what can be done. The Lions always help us with assistance whenever we needed tools or any equipment, like signage boards they had done for us this year. And hand soaps will come in regularly as well as books.”
